Caribana King and Queen show Pictures

I am a little ashamed to say that this is the first time I have attended the Caribana King and Queen show. I limed outside once, but I always thought, "why should I shell out the money to sit in the stands and watch these costumes when as a masquerader, I will have all the time in the world to look and see them on the road".
Truthfully, the only reason we were at the event tonight, was because we decided to volunteer to help out behind the scenes for as many events as they needed help for (except the parade of course).

But let me tell you, I don't care how many costumes you have seen on the road, or how close up you get, until you see these costumes at night, under stadium lights, being danced by these KINGS AND QUEENS, you have not witnessed what these ARTISTS had in mind when they envisioned their creations.
It is Breathtaking...... that is all I could say.

The back line was made for the road, the front line was made for the road, but the Kings and Queens were made to be showcased under bright light on the stage like the royalty they are.

I will not miss this show again.

Please forgive us, we didn't get shots of all the costumes because we were working and
also we had to leave at about 10:30pm since Karabana has to work in the morning. And we feteing tomorrow night and playing mas Saturday. Is red bull for breakfast yes. You all could probably check Toronto-lime for complete picks.

Hope you all enjoy the pics, say something, and tell us what you think.

I got to CN mas camp at 5:30 & 10 people were waiting inside. We were seated & told distribution wouldn't happen until 6. Then after me, the lineup started outside & they were not letting anybody else in. They started distributing costumes at 6:30 & I was out of there before 7:00.

Trini-in-Toronto's skull vest

Calico Jack's scary skull sword

Waist band

There's small face jewels included that match very well with all the jewels on the costume. I chatted with Jeannine our section designer who came out as his shorts were not in the bag, so she came out to give me them. I hope I would have noticed that! His belt was not sized, which usually happens, as it gets sized for you when you pick it up.

OK you cah hold me back - 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme wuk!

Caribana in de news

5 days to go everyone, you ready??? I am just about ready, I'm still on the hunt for face jewels... Dollorama & Everything for a Dollar don't have the proper size, theirs are either too large (for crafts) or too tiny. I really don't want to have to go downtown on King St. to get (pricey) face jewels. I've made some inquiries and hope to hear soon.

Junior King of the Bands - Leo the Lion
Isn't he adorable?

Saldenah's "The Deep" won Band of the Year, with "Pirates", Carnival Nationz taking second, and"Alkebu'lan", Toronto Revellers placing third.

Junior Queen, second place "High Priestess of Africa", Toronto Revellers

"Pirates Graveyard" - third place, Junior King of the Bands

This isn't recent news, but I had to post it because it's a cover picture of my section. As well as a favourite of Saldenah's, Fire Coral.

I must give a special hello to all the international visitors to this blog. Saudia Arabia, Iran, Barbados, Thailand, Germany and Turkey - how ya doing? I'm curious what brought you here, if it was some accident, or if you are coming to play mas? If not, will you next year? Leave comments, let us know what you think. We're over 10,000 hits, so thanks for stopping by, say something now, don't be shy.

Say masqueraders want to roll?

If anyone was pondering whether they should play mas or go check out the parade, the gorgeous photography from the official Scotiabank Caribana festival guide will surely make you wonder no more. This glossy guide (available at Caribana events) contains an all important event calendar & route map, interviews with mas makers, and the history of Carnival, Calypso & Pan.

But let's get back to the photos of the costumes - outstanding!

lovin it!

Be sure to get your hands on this Caribana collector must-have.

It's a way of life, more than happiness...

Do you see the countdown revellerz??... NEXT weekend is Carib2KGrea8...

So, #1:
Find you band! Get in your section!

Sextant Horizon reminds me of the fabulous Ariel bra & Gypsy skirt colour from last year. I like the waistband/skirt, good job.

Fuzzy yet soft material creating a rugged piratess look, cowrie shells & beads - no wonder Shipwreck was a fast sell out. Very cute.

There's no shortage of heavy Bullions & Baubles on this plain purple bikini, and that's what really makes it a costume (& very pirate-y). Keeping them on and the chain in place on the road will be quite the task.

This doesn't have the wow impact like it did during the launch, but that's simply because the display of Caw Caw can't do it justice like the model did. I also do have to agree with Hubby's point that the feathers cover cleavage. For smaller gyrls, that obviously isn't a concern, but for me...

Misty Dawn

The only male costume on display, Treasure Island - good on you, Ross!

Love the skull waistband, very much in keeping with the theme. I've played in 2 of Ross' blue sections before and was very pleased with the well made waistbands, headpieces and bras.

Cpt. Morgan's Wenches

On the right skin tone, Kacikie will look fine. I like the style of the different waist band. It'll be worn differently on the hips as it's straight across as opposed to a v shaped belt. I originally wasn't feelin the headpiece, too devilish for me... but it may grow on me.

... and, just call me Anne Bonny!
& Trini-in-Toronto, er,
Calico Jack is gonna help me pillage & plunder!!!
After seeing this costume from the launch and website pics, I knew this had to be played in boots - so, I've got my black boots, & I'm good to get on!!!!!!

Naughty corset must go with fishnets, which I'll be wearing, because if there ever was a costume that screamed black fishnets, this is it!

C a h wait to wear this headpiece!

Registering for Carnival Nationz was a Trinidad style experience we're not accustomed to here in TO - long line for hours in the hot sun. That's the name of the game for this über popular band. I've been pleased with my friendly communications with section leader Jeannine. You could say I have high expectations for this band, so far so good, & I'll let you know of course how it all goes down.

...find a partner & come let we play...

I missed CRAZY

I don't know how I missed it, but Crazy will be performing at the same Harbourfront Centre show on August 1st. He is coming on at 8pm.
Allyuh bear in mind that this isn't your typical West Indian promoter, this place is run by the Government. When they say 8 pm, its 8pm. You show up at 8:45, and he will be singning his last song. Don't say nobody never tell you
