  1. Hope you have a good trip.

The order of the band is good enough for me. :)

Are you going to launch on Monday for the Kiddies' new route? I saw the map of the route at Downsview Park and I'm alittle confused looking at it. :S

  2. Hi Lesley, We have day jobs so we won't make it to the kiddies launch. However, we are volunteers at the kids parade and there is a meeting this week, so I will get the details and do a post which will hopefully clear up any confusion. From what I know so far, the parade starts in downsview park and makes a circle which crosses Sheppard at one point and goes into the old air-force housing neighborhood and makes its way back into the park via a small bridge. Then the bands disburse in the park and there is a family fun day with food, entertainment music etc. I'll get more details, also I hope to figure out how to put up a route map on the blog.

the official parade site recently posted the last years band order and its still up. hopefully they'll notice the mistake soon. this blog definitely helpful, its my first time playing and i'm hearing the order you come down the road is very important.

any word yet on the route for the actual parade? is it going to be as long and annoying as last year?!

  5. That what I thought!

Only thing that bother me is, is the bridge. Well it's all left to be seen next weekend.

  6. For the adult parade route, there is no plan at this time to change the route from last year. I think they got feedback from many masqueraders appreciating the extra time to be stormer free before venturing onto the lake shore. We arrived late and met our band on the road already, so we can't comment there.

There will be no STEELBAND this year to slow up the flow off mas bands on the lakeshore, this move isn't well received by all but a change is needed to ensure paying masqueraders can enjoy them selves for once.I applaud this decision it's long over due.HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE CARNIVAL EVERYONE.One Love

I think you sound very ignorant. Keep in mind that its the non mas players that slow up the parade or incidents that happen on the road. I think pan plays a good part in the parade just as the mas .bands its good to see the pan bands when the trucks are stuck....at least there's not a big gap in between. I thank you for sharing, but if your going to post something like that make sure its set in stone.

I must be the only person in this world who likes the stormers.
The more the merrier, as far as I can see.
Now it's too much security, and not enough pee trucks.

  9. Not the only person, just the only masquerader(just kidding)
Are you sure about the steelbands? I know pan doesn't get the respect it deserves, but I'd be pretty shocked if they were excluded from the parade.

@Trini in Toronto,I heard this from a good source no pan this year so we just have wait and see come Aug 4th.The next big move would be to eliminate the # of TRUCKS doing nothing of importance in the bands,it's time to FREE UP D PARADE. RESPECT

  11. I'm not saying its not true, just that I can't believe it. Ah mean the the steel band association has representation on the FMC. I don't see how they can ban pan and allow band leaders to put on a half an hour song and dance before they cross the stage. Also, how you could ban pan and and allow ALL those "service" vehicles? I'm going to a kiddies volunteer meeting tonight and I'll see if I can hear something, the guys who do the security and road management might be there.

  12. Its not the pan that clogs the route, its the people who are walking in the opposite direction heading back to the start of the parade (stormers and masqueraders alike.)

No pan?!?! If its ture...that's totally disrespectful they deserve to be in it just like everyone else. If they take out the pan players then take out the cultural "Chinese's band or the rocawear trucks.

  14. I talked to the person in charge of logistics and told him about the pan rumor. He chuckled and shook his head a bit. He said nobody has made the decision to remove them from the parade. There are options being discussed, including a jouvert type event featuring pan. Did you know in New York they have jouvert in a park with only non amplified music like pan or other percussion?
Anyway, there are some people involved who question if pan belongs on the road, but I think they are safe at least for this year. Mind you, if you want pan to stay in the parade, the public needs to make their voices heard.

How does saldenah always get in the top 3. This is very fishy to me.

  16. Nothing fishy: whoever finished 1st (Nationz) last year got to pick first, whatever position they wanted. 2nd place picked second, 3rd place chose third, & so on for the A bands.

Hi guys!!! Very excited to be back at Caribana for the second time & I've again been getting all my scoop from your blog! (great job as always) So last year I had that dreadful experience with Tribal Knights, so this year our first pick was CN's Aztec section... But it sold out in like 2.5 seconds-- so believe it or not, we decided to go BACK to Tribal Knights. (I can't believe it either! LOL) We're playing in the Cotton Candy section on the frontline. Very excited! I guess every band deserves a second chance so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll have a much better experience when I come up from Texas in 2 weeks! Hopefully with less stormers. Ugh! ;)
    Keep up the good work!

    Hey,
Sorry to hear about your experience, but the section you picked for this year..I can say that the section leaders are amazing!!! Very helpful, and on point with any concerns you may have. This year I'm with Saldenah maybe if you have the same experience this year...next year try Saldenah! Hope it all works out.
