Are you looking to make a different contribution to Toronto's Caribbean Carnival? Do you wish to show people that there is more to our culture than bikinis, beads and feathers? Don't get me wrong, we love pretty mas, but, there is more to this story that needs to be told.
As you may know, Jackie and Clarence Forde, founders of Cajuca Mas Arts Producers, have been engaging, educating and entertaining the people with our rich history. They have been answering the question of why we celebrate this festival, how it started, and showcasing some of the original carnival characters.
Cajuca has been telling our story in public parks, at the King and Queen show, at the base of the CN Tower, etc. This year, they need your help to bring our story to the road where it belongs.
They are launching as a guest band portraying the original carnival characters: Dame Lorraines, Moko Jumbies, Jab Jabs, Pierrot Grenades, Fancy Sailors, Baby Dolls, Jammettes and Midnight Robbers all on the road for Caribana.
Haven't you always wanted to play a traditional mas? Do you think you have past the point of playing mas in a bra and panty? Ready to play mas in a band that welcomes all ages, including your kids?
To have an early start without stormers!?!? (As a guest band, they will do their presentation before the first big band goes down the road.)
They need your help to pull this off. They need you to come join the band and show people how mas used to be.
They are having a launch this Sunday afternoon/evening at Queen Victoria pub.
Come check us out!
