A Cultural Exposé - Connections 2011 band launch

  

Next up to launch this afternoon was Connections, joined this year by the Bahamian Junkanoo Legends of Toronto. It was a nice change of pace to attend a launch at a mas camp, it had a back-in-the-day feel, of how bands used to launch.

Some highlights for me were the great colour mix of lavender and pink, the sky high green headpiece and yes, the men's pinstripe hat.










A decent size crowd came out with their kids to this free launch to, aside from see the costumes, hear comedian Jean Paul, buy a drink, eat BBQ and lime with friends.
Great job Mervyn and team, and here's to a successful Caribana, or should I say at this moment, Toronto International Carnival!

Louis Saldenah's Secerets of the outer limits

We went to the Saldenah's launch tonight, and as always we had a pleasant evening. The costumes looked really good. And there are 15 sections with countless possibilities for costume options. If you can’t find something here you like, then I don’t know what to say.
This year they moved the launch up to a venue on Finch and it was a lot better, they had nice high ceilings so it wasn’t as hot as Embers, and there was a large stage and enough room in the hall for people to spread out. We have some more shots that we will post later (because I am falling asleep now). But I really think you will like what we have up so far.

At the bottom of the post, there is a list of section leaders, section colors and names which we picked up online (ingenious)... someday every band will do this the night they launch… very helpful.
