Caribana Flags and Colours (kiddies carnival) 2014

Hi folks,

Next Saturday there is a junior carnival parade at Yorkgate mall (Jane and Finch)

Before you all get confused, There are two junior carnivals and there have been two for the past few nears now. The one this coming Saturday July 12th is put on by the  (CAG) Caribana arts group.

We have been attending this event for many years and I urge you to come out and support.

These are our children and there is one Caribbean community, so come show them your support. They aren't involved in our adult politics, but they are the future of our festival.

Junior Carnival media launch 2013

The kids came out today at Downsview Park to give us a sneak look at what we'll be seeing on July 20th. From the colourful costumes seen paraded around this perfect afternoon, this year will be quite a treat for masqueraders and spectators. Fun, beautiful, vibrant costumes have been designed, giving the juniors big headpieces, capes and wings with their mas.

St. Jamestown Youth Centre Steel Orchestra playing the National Anthem.

Masada giving us a great performance of her song Loving the Vibes.

Carnival Nationz, Louis Saldenah, Toronto Revellers, Fantazia, Blues Carnival Fusion and Carnival Revolution presented costumes.

Jaeden singing I Love School, a very clever well composed Calypso. I hope we'll be seeing much more of this talented guy in the future.

The route has changed to a shorter one, starting east of Keele and Sheppard West, crossing over the William Baker Park bridge, then entering the park and ending on Carl Hall Road where the family party will be. 2,000+ kids are said to be parading in their mas.

Organizer Eric Delfish said "Last year was our first year at Downsview, and we had some challenges along the route. Based on what happened last year, and knowing already we are going to have more children in 2013, we have tightened up the route to improve the flow of the parade and provide better viewing for spectators."

The parade will begin at 11:00, and the family party is from 3 - 6.
New this year will be young Calypsonians between the ages of  8 - 18 performing on stage at the post parade family day. There will also be a Junior Steelband Showcase.
General Motors Canada, returning as a corporate sponsor, promised some new activities for the children, including headpiece decoration and face & body paint.

The kiddies palanced at Junior Carnival

Congrats to Louis Saldenah for their BIG wins today: Band of the Year, Queen, King and Female Individual!!!
So we just got back from the Caribana Junior Parade for 2010.
We had a really nice time. There were 12 bands and we have to give shout outs to both the FMC and the band leaders, because we started exactly on time. Very impressive. The costumes looked really good and there were lots of kids having a great time. These are a few pictures that we took, the kids had a blast, so if you have little ones and they weren't in the parade, you need to sign them up next year. Some bands had costumes for as little as $20.
The parade ended up at Yorkgate mall and there was music and lots of food and entertainment for the kids.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada: Over 1,600 children performing in 13 masquerade (or mas) bands took part in this morning’s Scotiabank Caribana/Yorkgate Mall Junior Carnival Parade. An estimated crowd of 5,000 watched as the children danced their way from the Black Creek Pioneer Village down Jane Street to the Yorkgate Mall at Finch Avenue.
The Parade is designed to give children a taste of what the (adult) Scotiabank Caribana Parade is like on Saturday, July 31st, 2010. As well, it showcases the Jane/Finch neighbourhood in a positive light. Each band in the parade was judged for a number of titles and prizes. What follows are the results of the competition (only the top three are sited below). Competitors have only 48 hours to contest these results. If unchallenged, they become official on Tuesday, July 20th, 2010.
