Number 12 ~ Twenty years of Caribana ~

The people want WATER!!!! That was a big takeaway from 2011.
I LOVED everything about my Wicked Toronto Revellers SugaCayne Designs costume and felt great in it. I enjoyed seeing so many of you on the road. As was the norm by now, Hamilton and Barrie were better. ๐Ÿ’š

In 2010, Shawn was a Fallen Angel, and I played in Maracas Beach.

This was the year of Palance, the tune that just๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปwon't๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปdie. ๐Ÿคฆ
Yes, 9 years later, and people still wanna palance at fetes ๐Ÿ™„.

Much to devoted masqueraders delight, it was the return of Hamilton this year, and Barrie was the big little carnival. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ”Ÿ

Carib2KWine = my Tembu warrior headpiece๐Ÿฅฐ, Kes on the road ๐Ÿ˜, no more Hamilton MardiGras ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ, but we had Barrie. More masqueraders came, and it was a sweet last lap ๐Ÿฅณ. Lots of great tunes like Tusty, Wine Up on Me, Bacchanal, Plenty Gal, Head Bad, and of course, Wotless

In my top 5, Caribana 2009 was fiiiiiine! ๐Ÿงก

8 things about Carib2KGre8!:

1. My headpiece!! Big yet light. It hasn't faded, and the feathers survived the downpour.

2. The standards like our pirate flag, and the golden skulls looked fantastic!

3. Playing a character! We were pirates Anne Bonny & Calico Jack with Carnival Nationz.

4.  Seeing many of you on the road! ๐Ÿค—

5. Fishnets! ๐Ÿ˜น

6.  It didn't stop with one parade!

7. Hamilton was another amazing time! Several new friends joined us, and we met new friends.

8. Barrie Caribfest, getting a third carnival in! I loved going down to the beach after the parade. Ideal spot to end up in.

Caribana 2008 definitely makes my top 5. ๐Ÿ’•

Ahhhh, 2007! Remains in the top 3 best Caribanas. We had done Trinidad Carnival this year, so it just made we ready, we ready, we ready, we ready for mas again!

But before that, we did (Toronto's version of) J'ouvert which was a BLAST!!!

The blog was started this year, so there were a lot more pictures being taken. We all saw Machel at Harbourfront and I managed to get videos of his Jumbie performance while doing the Jumbie dance standing on bench. I remember a woman behind me putting her hands out when I leaned back, lol. Some of our friends, who we met through blogging, were first timers to (Toronto) mas.
adored my Water Lilies costume designed by Bryant.

And Hamilton was even better, woi, the craziness...

Caribana 2k7 was heaven. ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

It's not that 2006 wasn't a good year, because it was. This is the only picture I could get my hands on. I hope to find and add more. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Looking back, the waistband sure went from huge to much smaller! I liked the shiny, almost mirrored blue, and my well made headpiece was light.
Besides Hamilton, which I remember being particularly hot, we went to New York Labour Day parade. J'ouvert stands out to me the most as such an amazing experience. We took the subway at 3 am and waited for the train with other revellers headed to party in the dark. Rags, paint, oil, mud and powder were the "costumes".
In the cool air wbroke dawn with devilish characters following rhythm sections. We've been to J'ouvert style fetes in Toronto, but we need this proper type of J'ouvert, amiright?

After a bit of sleep, in the afternoon we put on these costumes, and found our way to the parade. Another unforgettable thing is all the NYPD who secured the perimeter. Such a strong force of police officers, I felt intimidated and safe all at once. We chipped in back of a small band towards the end of the parade. This was a different kind of vibe, to experience another carnival, and only made me want to play mas in Trinidad even more.  ๐Ÿ’™

Seems I mixed up the last one with this one. This was 2004.
It's all a blur, lol!

I'm your King!
You're my Queen!
My darlinnnnn...

๐ŸŽถ Bonnie & Clyde ๐ŸŽถ

That was de TUNE!! Everything about it worked, the cheeky lyrics, the chorus and bridge, it was just so fun to jump up to. We got ๐Ÿ‘ธmarried๐Ÿคด in 2004, so I really belted that out. I'm a spaz, I know. ๐Ÿ˜œ
What do you think, did we ever get a tune like that again?

This Caribana we had to Get on Bad (Bunji) on the Soca Train (Maximus Dan).

Sandstorm was our costume and I loved this copper creation. It rained, but I still had fun.

I'm your Bonnie baby! ๐Ÿงก
