Caribfest in Barrie

Well Caribfest has announced the artists who are performing. When I heard the names I wondered how are they paying these people? Well I got my answer, they are going to be charging admission to get into the main stage area. Here are the details they have announced so far: Their website

One thing of note is that they are really targeting the mature Jamaican crowd, with Beres Hammond, which is a good thing because its Caribfest, not Trinifest:)

Beres, Fay-Ann and Bunji are all performing on Sunday, so, it looks like we might have to make a full weekend of it, because we don't want to sit in the traffic on Saturday morning and now we can't leave before Sunday, so its a whole weekend thing then? What you all think?

So if you are in costume, do you have to pay?

I sent an e-mail to them, If they get back to me, I'll let you know

I got a response from the organizers and Everyone needs to pay for entrance into the main stage(including masqueraders)

The main stage isn't where the parade takes place is it? I never did caribfest so this is new to me.

No, the parade isn't in the stage area. Its similar to the way Hamilton used to be. The parade takes place on the streets and and the parade ends at a park. In the case of Barrie, The park is actually on the beach. So they will block part of the park and they will have live entertainment and you can pay to enter that section if you want.

Has anyone been to Caribfest in past years? How does it compare to Caribana? This is the first I've heard about it and I'm wondering if it's worth the trip?...
