Sexy Marajhin

Not being familiar with the Mighty Sparrow, I didn't think much of the theme, and wondered how Carnival Nationz would portray the legendary Calypsonian. But Hubby (Trini-in-Toronto) knows older Calypso, and he informed me about Sparrow's most popular tunes.

Then I was told by a designer in January that his Sexy Marajhin costume will have a strong resemblance to very formal East Indian bridal wear only sexier... colors are red and gold with lots of rhinestones in keeping with Indian bridal jewelery. So when I imagine this, I think of gorgeous bridal saris like the one pictured. Plenty of gold accents, and overall, rich & vibrant.

I'm going to guess we'll see a Latin siren in Margarita, perhaps head ties and colourful fabric for Melda (Obeah Wedding), a pretty Jane, an evil Witch Doctor, and Jean and Dinah prostitutes.
And for the fellas, they can be a Congo Man, Lizard, & cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers - not to be confused with Drunk and Disorderly winers & wavers.

Or, an entirely different direction will be taken!! Wouldn't be the 1st time (this season). We'll see soon enough on Saturday at the CNz launch...

Hi Everyone,

Lots of you De Freitas supporters may have been wondering what his next move would be after the TMBA frowned upon the entry of Tribe Toronto.
Well, supporters will be happy to hear that Mr De Freitas will continue his participation in the parade, and operate under his new band name: DE FREITAS CARNIVAL.

They have setup a facebook fan page
So we should hear details of band launches and other events soon
Stay tuned...

Guess who's coming for Caribana...

Well this is certainly fun news, MACHEL is coming back to Toronto for Caribana!!
Even Trinidad Carnival missed him this year, and he hasn't been here in a few, so his fans will certainly be pleased.
The best Machel show we've experienced was his free one in '07 at Harbourfront. Up front, under the clear blue sky, it was certainly memorable. Did I mention free? What was your favourite Machel performance?

Let's see if this one at Wild Water Kingdom (another venue I like) can top that.
Thanks Buublenut for the pics!

So what do you think of the glitz & glamour? My faves are the colours in Rodeo Dreams, Champagne on Ice's jeweled chain, Glamour's bra & corset, and the Moulin Rouge headpiece.
