Renissance Mas Productions presents "Just Imagine"

Early Sunday evening, we had the pleasure of attending Renaissance Mas Productions band launch. Their presentation is entitled "Just Imagine". It had been a good couple nights of launches and this was a perfect ending to the weekend. It was a nice family vibe with lots of people bringing their children to see the launch (they also presented their kiddies costumes). I think it was a nice combination and I like the idea of holding both of them at the same time. I have memories as a child of going to mas camps and pan yards with my parents and I think its great to see adults making an effort to introduce the kids to the culture, especially since we are living here in Toronto.

The section names are When mas was mas, Sky's the limit, the Cure, Mystical Bird of Abundance, 2052 the Future
For the kids:
Hidden Treasures, the Future, My Secret Garden and Bumble Bee.

You can check out their website here for details on registration info

This is an excerpt I pulled from their website:

Renaissance Mas Productions (RMP) was formed by joint band leaders, Kathleen Hughes and Nataki Christmas, and a team of enthusiastic mas makers and players in September 2010. This group was birth out of Arnold Hughes & Associates, a veteran mas maker and mas player. He started making mas in Trinidad in the '60s, and has expanded to Toronto, Calgary and Washington. Arnold and his dedicated team have produced many winning costumes over the years, and have achieved the coveted title of "Band Of The Year", twice. One of the meanings of the word "renaissance" is: "The activity, spirit, or time of the great revival of art, literature, and learning in Europe beginning in the 14th century and extending to the 17th century, marking the transition from the medieval to the modern world."
Renaissance Mas Productions will mark the revival of great mas; blending the traditional & modern worlds together. Both Kathleen and Nataki grew up surrounded by mas, first starting out as players, and then eventually developed the skill of making mas. They have been a part of the team that's helped to produce many of the winning costumes for Arnold Hughes & Associates. Some of the same members of this team are now a part of Renaissance Mas Productions.
